Some of the Artists & Community Groups We Work With
Many of these artists and community art groups have exhibited in our annual AFTM Brisbane Festival Exhibition and some of their pieces have been acquired for the AFTM permanent art collection.
“Alex’s life is depicted through his paintings which show various styles and changes in colour displaying his moods at different times."
"For Damien, painting has become an important creative expression that allows him to share his inner world with others"
“Every child is born to be an artist, and like most children I had passion for painting. But when I was diagnosed with a rare muscle disease in 1995 at the age of 6, that passion became a best friend. Spending time in and out hospital and being to unwell to play with the other kids, drawing and painting became my entertainment.”
“I decided to push myself to paint what I felt. It was so hard to put these feelings on the canvas as with every stroke of the paint brush I was going through my emotions inside. But each new painting was a new journey I had to take.”
"Since I was a child my interests have lain equidistant between art and science, and my creative
output tends to reflect that; the state of my mind influencing the tone and subject matter."
"I rediscovered my childhood love of creating art when I became unwell and was unable to continue pursuing mainstream study and work. Even though I would rather NOT have a mental illness, I can see that this particular 'cloud' does- for me anyway- have a silver lining, in as much that otherwise I might not be the artist I am today".
