“Alex’s life is depicted through his paintings which show various styles and changes in colour displaying his moods at different times."
Alex emigrated from Germany to the outskirts of Sydney in 1950 with his parents and sister. Even as a child it was very natural for him to express his thoughts and feelings though drawings and paintings. As he got older and his skill developed he was encouraged by well known artists who saw his work. Alex has had several art exhibitions, his first was at the age of 14. In 1963, he was awarded a science scholarship and worked and trained as an Industrial Chemist. He became ill and could not continue with his career but still managed to produce many beautiful paintings throughout this difficult time. Alex also experienced visual impairment due to cataracts until an operation restored his sight in 2002. Using mostly oil paints, and at times charcoal, his work includes: abstracts, still life, Australian landscapes, and portraits. Despite many health challenges, Alex continues to enjoy painting and hopes to hold more exhibitions in the future.
