2019 Woven and Tied: Women’s Work? Exhibition
Art from the Margins (AFTM) is excited to present our second Inspired AIR exhibition Woven and Tied: Women’s Work?, on display from Saturday 2 March
until 6 April 2019 at AFTM Gallery & Studios, located in Fortitude Valley.
Woven and Tied: Women’s Work? is a showcase of fibre and textile artworks that have been produced during a six week mentoring program with artist-in-residence (AIR) Therese Flynn-Clarke and AFTM Outsider Artists. Using basketry skills and stitching techniques, the artists explore the stereotypes of what is considered ‘women’s work’ within the art world and the wider community. Through Flynn-Clarke sharing her knowledge of this underestimated art form, Woven and Tied: Women’s Work? demonstrates how both traditional and contemporary materials can be used to explore the extremities of sculptural textile art.
Don’t miss the Woven and Tied: Women’s Work? official opening on Saturday 2 March. AFTM invites you to please bring your family and friends to meet the artists and join in a Make and Take free arts activity in a
variety of media from 2pm. We encourage you to stay for the exhibition opening at 3pm!
All are welcome and admission is free!
