Introduction to Phone Photography and Instagram
It's the camera we have with us all the time, and in this hands-on workshop you'll learn how to use your phone to take great photos, creatively process your images and share them on Instagram.
You’ll learn about composition, light, phone camera settings, apps for photographing and editing images, phone camera accessories, and the do’s and don’ts of sharing on social media.
This workshop caters for all skill levels and is suitable for iPhone and Android smartphones.
You’ll need to bring your phone, phone charger and selfie stick (if you have one). Please download the free app Spapseed prior to the workshop and ensure you’ll have access to data during the workshop. Make sure to wear comfortable shoes as we’ll be walking around Fortitude Valley for approximately one hour.
What you’ll take away:
Composition: From landscapes and people to travel and macro photography – you’ll learn a number of techniques to ensure your images will have maximum impact!
Understanding light: Like all cameras, your phone camera needs light. This workshop teaches how to shoot in the bright light of the day and in the low light of interiors. You'll also learn the different qualities of light and how they affect the mood and message of images.
Settings: Most phone cameras have manual settings, which when used correctly can dramatically improve your images. Don’t worry if you have never heard of exposure, white balance, face detection, metering and ISO before – you’ll leave this workshop with plenty of new knowledge under your belt.
Shooting apps: Learn which smartphone apps work best for controlling shutter speed (to capture beautiful blurry oceans swirling around rocks), macro and depth of field (for taking portraits with hazy backgrounds).
Accessories: Tripods, lenses, grips and filters - discover which accessories are essential and which are nice-to-have.
Photo editing apps: Wanting to remove a pesky pimple or darken a background? Working on photographs taken during the workshop, you’ll learn techniques like cropping, applying filters and blending images into double-exposure using the popular editing app Snapseed.
Sharing on social media: You’ll learn how to set up an Instagram account, optimal posting times, managing copyright, the dos and don’ts of social media, and who to follow for inspiration!
